Expectations:

CHEM 1202 is a General Education course in the Natural Sciences area, physical science subdivision.  Students should demonstrate problem-solving skills and knowledge of the basic theories of chemistry and its underlying principles.  You should spend a minimum of nine hours per week working on assignments for this class.

Required Text:

Chemistry: The Central Science, Brown, LeMay, and Bursten, any  edition.

Structure:

This course covers chapters 14, 15, 5, 19, 16, 17, and 20 of the text.  You will take a mandatory 15-problem, 10-point, online quiz periodically.  Mandatory online homework problems are worth 0.1 points each (4 points per assignment).  All quizzes are written in 5-answer multiple-choice format.  If you cannot take an online quiz on the day when it is scheduled, ie, when it first shows up on the website, the software will allow you to take it up to 2 weeks late.  Homework assignments must be completed on time.  No extensions will be given for these.  Mandatory internet homeworks may be submitted in advance of their deadlines (deadlines are online with the assignments), but will not be accepted late regardless of circumstances.  A comprehensive online final exam will be worth 40 points.  All quizzes, homeworks, and the final exam are in open-book format.  You will need to use your textbook to do many of the homework problems and a few of the quiz problems.  My course lectures are located online Moodle, organized by text chapter, and accessed via chapter links on the right side of the Moodle page.

Grading Components

Quiz/Homework:

60 points maximum

Final Exam:

You should attempt to earn 70.0 points doing in-class quizzes and online homework to maximize your prefinal grades but only the first 60 of these points will count toward your final grade.
